Wine bars

Last month I went to 2 wine bars. Both visits are worth to be mentioned.

The first wine bar we visited was Le Refuge in Hasselt. Old from the outside, exclusive, stylish and trendy on the inside. Entering Le Refuge is like entering a fantasy world: sitting down in comfortable lounge sofas you can enjoy the best alcoholic drinks from all over the world. And at 23:00, like in the fairy tale of Cinderella, the wine bar transforms into a night club. It is definitely worth visiting!

Yesterday evening we went to Tongeren. Tinto is a “brasserie” and Wine bar near the center of the city. Upstairs you can have lunch or dinner, while in the basement there is a trendy wine bar. Although it is officially a “brasserie” (a place where you can eat snacks and small dinners), it has the experience of going to a good restaurant. If you are planning to visit Tinto, take the Tiramisu as dessert .

On monday morning I was driving to work… well… driving is not the correct word. There was a huge traffic jam on the highway (E314): it took me 40 minutes for only 15 km. The reason for it was a pink speed camera. Normally those camera’s are white in Belgium, but some guy’s painted it pink. Everyone took his time to admire the new monument, which resulted in a traffic jam.

This Thursday night the camera will be painted white again, so you must be quick if you still want to see it painted pink.

Today I received the following mail:

Hi Dimitri,

I am delighted to let you know that your submitted photo has been selected for inclusion in the newly released eighth edition of our Schmap Cologne Guide.

This is the result of posting my pictures on Flickr. From time to time I’m contacted by magazines and groups to include my pictures on their sites or magazines. Since I’m not a professional photographer I’m very proud on these invitations, especially when they are also published.

The Insiders

About two months ago I became a member of ‘The Insiders’. This is an organization that brings people in contact with new products. Every month there is a new campaign. If you are interested in testing this product, just fill in a small survey and hope that you are selected for the campaign.

“Is it really for free? What’s the catch? This can’t be true!” are you probably thinking. I can tell you: it is free! The only thing that is expected from you it that you give an honest feedback of the product(s), and this takes only 5 to 10 minutes of your time. And if you are positive towards to product, you will probably talk about it with your friends. This way the products are getting free mouth-to-mouth advertising.

2 months ago I received my first campaign package. The box contained 24 bottles of mixed drinks:

* Smirnoff Premium Vodka & apple juice

* J&B Scothc Whisky & cola

* Gordon’s London Dry Gin & tonic

* Captain Morgan Spiced Rum & cola

There was also a free Smirnoff glass, a lot of free drinking cups, a campaign book and flyers with reduction coupons in the box.

Here is my feedback for these products:

Smirnoff Premium Vodka & apple juice

Drinking ‘Smirnoff Premium Vodka & apple juice’ is just like drinking apple juice. You don’t notice that there is alcohol in the can and the taste is very good. This is a good mix for everyone. Drink it ice cold, with a few ice cubes, on a hot summer evening. But watch out: it contains alcohol. So if you drink to fast and to much, you will start noticing it!

J&B Scothc Whisky & cola

This drink wasn’t my favorite drink. In my opinion it was the even not a good taste. In the past I drunk a Coca-Cola with Chival Regas, and that taste was much better than this mix.

Gordon’s London Dry Gin & tonic

Gin & Tonic isn’t a taste I would normally drink, but this mix could convince me to empty my bottle. Drink it in the summer as an aperitif, in your garden, before you start barbecuing. You can really taste the tonic and gin. It’s as good as drinking this mix in a club or bar.

Captain Morgan Spiced Rum & cola

‘Captain Morgan Spiced Rum & cola’ surprised me the most of all drinks. It’s taste is special and good. Most of you drink a ‘Cuba Libre’ or a ‘Bacardi-Cola’. To be honest, I think that a real ‘Bacardi-Cola’ is better, but you must always have all the ingredients in house. The received mix is the ideal replacement for those people that don’t have all the ingredients or don’t have the time to create a cocktail. Drink it on a cold winter evening in front of the fireplace. This drink has something cozy, warm. I think that a cuban cigar would go great with this mix.

The next campaign if about City Trips. Maybe they will be given away some free city trips or reductions… next Thursday we’ll know more.

If you want to know more about ‘The Insiders’, have a look at their website: The Insiders website. If you want to become an insider, let me know and I’ll send you an invitation. This way we are connected on the site and can earn extra points.

I’m having to much “old” hardware that I’m not using anymore. Some of the hardware is not used for 5 years, so it’s time I get rid of it. It’s only taking up space in my room.

Bye bye Plaxo

About 7 years ago I installed Plaxo on my computer. It was a tool to easily keep my contact list up-to-date. The tool send mail to each of my contacts to validate their address, work information, phone number, etc. The user then just had to confirm the information or adjust it. All the information was synced back to my computer; it couldn’t be easier.

But the last version of Plaxo didn’t included that functionality anymore… I had hoped they would put it back in, but it hasn’t happened. So what is the added value of Plaxo today? Nothing! It’s just another community site like Facebook, Linked In, ...

That’s why I have decided to delete my account. Having to many account or subscriptions on the internet isn’t always good. I just stick to one place to keep all the information centralized: my website

What do you think about Plaxo? Does it still has added value? Or is Facebook much better?

Oh yeah. Even more bad news: the website of Plaxo mentions syncing functionality with Google application (address book and calendar), but it isn’t implemented/working. So don’t create a premium account.

Britains Got Talent - Susan Boyle

47 Year old Susan Boyle wows the judges with her performance in the auditions for Britains Got Talent, singing I dreamed a dream from Les Miserables.

I can’t embed the movie in my website, because it is disabled by the author, but here is the link: Britains Got Talent - Susan Boyle

And here are the Lyrics:

I dreamed a dream in time gone by

When hope was high

And life worth living

I dreamed that love would never die

I dreamed that God would be forgiving.

Then I was young and unafraid

And dreams were made and used

And wasted

There was no ransom to be paid

No song unsung

No wine untasted.

But the tigers come at night

With their voices soft as thunder

As they tear your hope apart

As they turn your dream to shame.

And still

I dream he’ll come to me

That we will live the years together

But there are dreams that cannot be

And there are storms

We cannot weather…

I had a dream my life would be

So different form this hell I’m living

so different now from what it seemed

Now life has killed

The dream I dreamed.
